The hard votes are certain YES votes that aren't particularly popular but will benefit his constituents. Travis has a record of taking immediate action when everything is on the line. When the historic, devastating floods struck southern Missouri in April 2017, Travis didn't wait around for the waters to recede or for federal or state bureaucracy to clear. Before the floodwaters had even receded, he called federal officials and met with state and local officials. Within days he had even persuaded the governor to come to West Plains and access the situation in person. All the while aggressively fighting for the emergency recovery funding our families and business owners desperately needed to rebuild.
Travis has a proven history of delivering meaningful outcomes for the Ozarks. During his previous tenure in the state legislature, he played a crucial role in securing tens of millions of dollars in vital funding for Ozarks Healthcare, ensuring long-term stability and emergency medical access for rural families. He is committed to continuing that fight by securing the state resources needed to fix our rural roads, repair bridges, and expand high-speed broadband infrastructure across Howell County.
Travis approaches the state budget with a businessman’s eye, focusing on fiscal responsibility and cutting wasteful government spending. Having served as Vice Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, he has a proven track record of advocating for property tax reform and structural relief. Travis believes that hard-working Missourians know how to spend their money far better than government bureaucrats do, and he will continue to fight to keep taxes low for seniors, families, and all business owners.
During his tenure in the Missouri House of Representatives, Travis built a firm legislative record of protecting Missouri land, borders, and resources. He consistently sponsored and supported legislation aimed at restricting foreign ownership of real estate and agricultural land, cracking down on illegal immigration, and reinforcing law enforcement's ability to protect local communities. Travis Smith is an experienced public servant, a longtime local private developer, business owner, former high school coach, and a former member of the Missouri House of Representatives. Born and raised in West Plains, Missouri, Travis earned his B.A. from the University of Missouri and his M.B.A. from William Woods University. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at West Plains Savings and Loan. Previously he served as President of the Howell County Development Board and Secretary of the Ozarks Healthcare Board. Deeply rooted in the community alongside his family, Travis's entire life and career have been defined by the core values of the Ozarks: unwavering faith, absolute dedication to the U.S. Constitution, and an active, results-driven approach to public service.

Travis stands firmly with our area farmers and ranchers against foreign ownership of agricultural land, radical environmental overreach, and unfair tax burdens on family farms. He believes our local producers need a dominant, common-sense voice in the Capitol to preserve and protect our agricultural heritage.
